- Got up to Vail and met up with everybody
The Cabin was quite spectacular. Dan did a really good job picking out the place, it held a lot of people and the amenities were perfect. We got together and started drinking while we made some delicious shrimp scampi and asperigus. All set to start skiing the next day! Happy B-Day Dano!
Saturday
Amazing morning, we got out a little late today but the snow was perfect. So Rutty and the Girls went with us (everybody else was an early bird) and on this crowded buss we got a little separated and the girls stayed on while we got off and the extreme right hand side of the mountain. So we are standing outside the lifts when all of a sudden Matt says “Oh Mother Effer!” “I forgot my damn skis on the bus!” Holy shit how do you do that?
So he left us to go track down the girls and to get them to get his skis while he caught up. It actually worked out just perfect!
The next 2 hours we spent trying to get from one side of the mountain to the other, it was pretty incredible because the whole place is sooooooo freaking huge and beautiful. I had an amazing time on everything, except for those goddamned fucking cat walks! I swear IF i never seen another one of those damn things again I will pee my pants with joy! (by the time I realize that statement I’ll be wearing depends so it’ll be a pretty common occurrence). Once we got back to Blue Sky Basin I would swear it was some of the best boarding ever
some really fun runs with some really amazing people. Especially the one out of Blue Sky that allowed us to jump through the trees, what an amazing run
Did some Double blacks and loved it!
We had to take another damn cat walk to get back on the stupid green run
but its ok because some sawesome margaritas were on the other end at los amigos! OMG SO GOOD!!! but they got me a bit hammered.
Off to the house to freshen up and then to break in like a ninja to a local resort to use their heated pool and hot tub. Ok so the hot tub was great and all but the real kicker was this little girl that seriously acted like she was a professional business woman! Seriously! Water was warm, sauna was warm and my shorts were shorter than anything I had ever worn in my life, oh my goodness.
Time for quick showers and off for a night on the town. Vendetta’s pizza for Dan’s BDay dinner! Some shots and good beer and better company. And SAWESOME Pizza! We went to two clubs after this but I’m pretty drunk at this point (still from those margaritas) some under ground club and ski bar I think :\ If anyone remembers for me, I would love to know for my own posterity. Thanks! Just leave a comment.
Shared a cab ride home to our house because it was too long to wait for the bus, some people got a pretty cheap cab ride I think.
Sunday
OMG its actually Sunday! I feel like I did so much this weekend! We wake up super early to hit the slopes on time this time because there are 9 MUTHA FUCKIN inches of SNOW!!! Sawesome! Get out to the lifts, the entire mountain is packed because its the first good snow storm all winter and every body wants a piece of it! Purchase tickets (thanks Dano
) and just about to get on the lift to go skiing when Matt’s on the phone. ”Hey guys the cleaning lady is here and she says we’re supposed to be out by now!” haha, pretty damn funny I think, so we have to leave the snow behind (Waugh picked us up) and go clean up to get out of the place.
Finally get back to the slopes a couple hours later and get up on that mountain with Matt. Pretty awesome. Snow is fresh and clean perfect runs and a sawesome time. Met up for lunch, nom nom nom. Headed down to try to beat the traffic. (hahahaha no fucking way in hell). We found the most amazing down hill run through a gully where dan was jumping off of cliffs and being an all around billy badass. I was pretty jealous.
Spent about 4 hours in traffic to get back, have some soup and go to bed before my 6 AM flight. More to come about this stupid fucking plane in next weeks edition!
Thanks for the awesome Birth day dano
Sharks with “LASERS”
Jan 28th
Holy shit a megajoule laser, are you fucking kidding?!!? I wonder how many gold fish you could kill if you lined them all up in a row? I’m talking about the National Ignition Facility (NIF) that has recently produced the world’s first megajoule laser, which only lasted for a few nanoseconds but is still a milestone for nuclear fusion development. This is huge people! Not only for the human race for clean energy but also for Mad Scientists that are planning on taking over the world. Think about all the power those mad scientists use to power their laboratories, that’s a huge cost, if they had instant fusion their biggest bill would be their cable, which is cool because they could probably cut that too. LASER Channel.
In all seriousness kudos to NIF they’ve done a hell of a job.
Engadget = Awesome
Jan 21st
Just wanted to spotlight that the guys over at engadget are pretty damn amazing. They just published an editorial about the top 10 outdated elements of the modern Desktop. Very fair and balanced, and a good set of points. Definitely worth the read if you have a second:

Nexus One Unboxing
Jan 18th
Probably one of the most amazing and creative un-boxings ever. And it has NINJAS!!!!
Once again it shows how google has set it’s self apart from the rest, and relies on viral marketing to reach its audience. It is interesting that this is the first physical product Google has released, watching their tactics to sales, publicity and conquest of the market could be very telling of how well Google will do.
Jobs Drop 85,000 now we are up to 10%… Damn.
Jan 11th
News today is all about the job loss of 85,000 and the raise to 10%…
It’s a big number but we, as a nation, have become numb to the shock value of depressing numbers. This is far more alarming than the general consensus that we have surpassed another percentage point (really, the difference between 8 and 9 is actually more alarming than the difference between 9 and 10). Too much decree has been given to Obama’s economic stimulous, and nation saving actions. The actions have truly saved us from a horrendous collapse of our economy and our banks but it was far from a golden knife in the back of the recession, there was no way of pulling us out of this slump that we worked so hard to create, the only viable solutions (started by the stimulus and other measures) will be long term and arduous.
In all seriousness, there will still be a collapse of the commercial real-estate market that has been on the brink of destruction for quite some time now. Many of the big players that over expanded and caused so much construction in the early oughts (Circuit City, Best Buy, Home Depot, etc) have now seriously cut back on their presence or completely gone bankrupt. This, along with the thousands of mom and pop stores that have closed up shop, has caused our commercial real estate market to become barren and littered with for lease signs. If the leasee’s of this land can not afford to pay the now higher tax rates, these properties too will become toxic and go BOOM.
Good News: because of the nature of property taxes, which are acting as the ticking time bomb, and the leaniency of the banks on commercial real estate (far more trustworthy than you or I) there is far more time for the economy to fix its self as compared to the residential market where the banks felt they had more control and could pull the plug easier. Time will be our saving grace in this matter.
